Heart and Mind - April 2017
Spring at last! The days are longer, the sun is warmer, and the greening and blooming begins.
And the coming of Spring means Earth Day which is celebrated April 22nd. As with Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we want to be that unique church in the Ludington area to really go all-out and celebrate Earth Day. This year we will have the People’s Church celebration on April 23rd.
After supporting and attending the AFFEW events on Saturday, we want the church service on Sunday to be inspiring and affirming. We want to emphasize for all to see that as Unitarian Universalists, we take seriously our respect for the interdependent web of all existence, of which we are a part (our seventh principle).
The service will be intergenerational, and Meranda, our R.E. teacher, is working to provide a reader’s theater performance with the children who attend our church. Parents and grandparents of children—expect a phone call from Meranda if you haven’t received one. It would be great to have as many children as possible participate.
Because our Earth Day celebration falls the Sunday after Easter, there will be an opportunity to order flowers for either Easter or Earth Day, or even both. Please refer to the order form provided in the Order of Service and the People’s Voice for more information. In addition, if anyone would like to help arrange the flowers or other decorations for these celebrations, let Anne Pettigrew or me know, and we will be sure to provide you with what you need.
Be sure to tell your friends and turn out for our celebration of Earth Day. It’s Spring!
